Δικογραφία σε βάρος ένδεκα ατόμων, εκ των οποίων έξι συνελήφθησαν για παράβαση του νόμου περί πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας, σχηματίστηκε από το Τμήμα Δίωξης Ηλεκτρονικού Εγκλήματος, ύστερα από συντονισμένη επιχείρηση σε Αθήνα, Λάρισα, Πέλλα και Θεσσαλονίκη, που έγινε στο πλαίσιο του σχεδιασμού για την πάταξη της πειρατείας, μέσω διαδικτύου.
Οι κατηγορούμενοι, σύμφωνα με την αστυνομία, ήταν συντελεστές ή συνδέονταν στην ιστοσελίδα www.gamato.info, είτε ως διαχειριστές, είτε ως επίσημα μέλη (vip mempers) και διαμοίραζαν ψηφιακά αρχεία με τραγούδια, ταινίες και παιχνίδια.
Η υπόθεση άρχισε να ερευνάται μετά τη μήνυση που υπέβαλε εκπρόσωπος της εταιρίας προστασίας οπτικοακουστικών έργων «ΕΠΟΕ», κατά των διαχειριστών της ιστοσελίδας.
Η εν λόγω ιστοσελίδα είχε 850.000 μέλη και δεχόταν καθημερινά 16 εκατ. επισκέψεις και ήταν το δημοφιλέστερο ελληνικό σάιτ απ' όπου οι χρήστες «κατέβαζαν» κινηματογραφικές ταινίες, μουσικά κομμάτια, λογισμικά, παιχνίδια και άλλα, με αποτέλεσμα να υπάρχει μεγάλη οικονομική ζημιά στις εταιρίες εμπορίας, καθώς και φοροδιαφυγή.

Their methods are cheap, low, and for the most part, in-effective in stopping p2p and torrents. Though there are some casualties of any war, there are a few whom do get caught, and even more who do not. This is a handy reference for those of you who need protection.
Many ask, How can I hide my IP address and stay safe?. Well there are many answers, and it basically depends on what most suits your financial, bandwidth, and productive needs. Obviously there are many ways to stay safe, and many new developments in technology to also counter-act that safety.

Η εξαγορά του Ρirate Βay, ενός από τους πλέον δημοφιλείς διαδικτυακούς προορισμούς ανταλλαγής αρχείων, από τη σουηδική εταιρεία λογισμικών συστημάτων Global Gaming Factory αντί 7,7 εκατ. δολαρίων σηματοδοτεί ίσως το τέλος μιας ολόκληρης εποχής για την πειρατεία στο Διαδίκτυο και την ελεύθερη ανταλλαγή αρχείων.
Το περιοδικό Wired χαρακτήρισε τη συμφωνία η οποία ανακοινώθηκε την Τρίτη, 30 Ιουνίου, την πιο σημαντική εξέλιξη στην υπόθεση της ανταλλαγής αρχείων μέσω του Ιnternet μετά το 2001, όταν η ιστοσελίδα Νapster, που επέτρεπε στους επισκέπτες της να «κατεβάζουν» στον υπολογιστή τους μουσικά αρχεία, αναγκάστηκε να γίνει «νομοταγής» χάνοντας τους επισκέπτες της.
